True Lemon® and True Lime™ just makes sense. Why did it take so long for someone to make it?
People often ask us that question and the answer is, we just don’t know. But lucky for us, not so long ago, David (the founder and president of Grand Brands) was at lunch with his father. Both David and his father are lemon-lovers and while waiting for another bowl of fresh cut lemon wedges to arrive at their table, David looked at a packet of sugar sitting on the table and said, “Why hasn’t someone put the taste of fresh lemon in a packet?” David spent the next three years perfecting True Lemon® until he got the taste just right. True Lime™ packets and True Lemon® and True Lime™ shakers soon followed. And now you get the benefits of his labor of love, just by opening a True Lemon® and True Lime™ packet or shaking a bottle!
When I put a packet of True Lemon® or True Lime™ into my soda, it starts to fizz. Why is this happening?
The bubbles form as a result of a reaction that takes place when the addition of citric acid in solid form is solubilized in a carbonated soft drink (cola is the worst). The reaction occurs where gases are released (carbonation).
With that being said, it is not a significant issue if you pour a cola
into a glass because the escaping gas does not get bottlenecked forming reverse pressure, which is what causes the spillover effect. If you prefer to keep your cola in the can, just add True Lemon® or True Lime™ a little bit at a time, so it won't fizz a lot and spill over.
I have Celiacs disease. Does True Lemon® and True Lime™ contain gluten?
True Lemon® and True Lime™ do not contain any gluten. Maltodextrin is an all-natural tasteless, colorless carbohydrate derived from corn, and is used for bulking and flowability. This is an insufficient amount of carbohydrate and adds no caloric value.
How much Vitamin C do you need?
One of the most widely taken supplements in the United States, Vitamin C, also referred to as ascorbic acid, is a very important antioxidant proven to boost the immune system, build collagen, reduce arterial aging and prevent plaque build-up. Your body's ligaments, tendons and collagen need Vitamin C to stay strong and healthy. Vitamin C, as with all antioxidants, also helps to counter the effects of free radicals (cell-damaging molecules) and even helps the body recycle other antioxidants.
The Food and Nutrition Board, the committee that sets the Recommend Daily Allowances (RDA), recommends 60 to 75 milligrams per day of Vitamin C with an upper limit set in the year 2000 at 2000 milligrams per day. For lactating women, the RDA for Vitamin C is higher: in the first six months it is 95 milligrams per day and in the second six months it is 90 milligrams per day. (True Lemon® provides 25% of the current RDA for Vitamin C.) Recently, though, experts have strongly recommended increasing the RDA to between 100 to 200 milligrams per day and even others recommend getting more of Vitamin C – up to 500 to 100 milligrams per day - to maximize its health benefits. However, taking high doses of Vitamin C (1000 to 2000 milligrams per day) can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps and nausea. Vitamin C is water-soluble – what your body doesn't use, it flushes out of your system – so these symptoms will usually disappear once the dose of Vitamin C has been reduced. (And because Vitamin C is water-soluble, it also means that you need to replenish it by taking the recommended amounts of Vitamin C daily.)
By eating a varied and balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables (and by adding True Lemon® or True Lime™ to your beverages or food) you should certainly get all the Vitamin C you need to help keep your body healthy and happy.
